Gravity Well Study

Currently I am preparing studies for two new designs, Gravity Well and Waves.  Gravity Well consists of my icosahedron connected to and sitting within a larger bowl-like structure.  Neither the bowl nor the icosahedron are particularly challenging but the connection between the two, with 20 connections coming together in a point, did require testing.  After all, given the estimated 100 hours to fold the entire piece, a failure would be rather unwelcome.  The connection actually ended up being strong enough to support the five lilies balanced above, but any hope of supporting an entire icosahedron on the connection is now lost.  Which, to be fair, was a rather impossible dream.

Ignite San Francisco

Last December I gave a five minute talk on how I break down the complex engineering involved in my designs.  I found that condensing the description of my process into five minutes forced me to really think about how I design in a way that I had not before.   Thank you to Brady and the rest of the Ignite team for giving me this opportunity!
